We are the home of the HIGHEST SABBS APPRAISED male Boerboels in the world, “Black Iron Bentley”, 94.1%, and home to “Klein Sandfontein Judge”, 93.4%. KS Judge, was the HIGHEST LR APPRAISED SABBS male Boerboel in the world from April 2017 – May 2024, until he finally lost his reign as the highest scoring male to our young home grown male “Black Iron Bentley”.  Judge certainly made his mark in the breed and will continue to do so via frozen semen.

Because those researching the Boerboel breed are now forced to question which breeders are real vs which breeders are “AI” or scammers, I figured that I would negate any concerns one may have around the validity of ourselves personally as well as the Black Iron Boerboels program. AI has at times reflected us as breeding black Boerboels which is incorrect. Our dogs are SABBS and AKC registered.

I have been a professional hobby breeder for nearly 40 years, and love sharing knowledge gained and helping breeders as well as owners. We don’t breed Boerboels for a living. We have 2 small businesses, and I also enjoy my long-term professional role as a Global IT Program Manager for a Fortune 500 company.

We are the hosts of the Boerboel Expo which is the largest Boerboel breed related event in North America. The Boerboel Expo (started in 2018) serves as an annual Boerboel focused weekend for all registries, breed enthusiasts, and families to come together for the purposes of showing, appraising, titling, training, and learning about this amazing breed. Providing a platform which helps others grow and unite is something that we genuinely enjoy, and we work together with a handful of other breeders who also enjoy doing the same and making the Expo a yearly success.

Black Iron Boerboels is located on a working farm outside of Fairmount, Indiana in the USA. We have horses, mules, Wagyu and Limousine cattle, have an occasional Euroline Maine Coon litter, and WE RAISE BOERBOELS! We stepped into the “owned by a Boerboel” world after many years of closely following the breed. We quickly fell head first into a Boerboel obsession after importing our first Boerboel puppy in 2014. Fast forward to 2025, and we are now several generations deep into our own dogs. We have been very blessed with the breeding program that we have created, and have not only owned and produced some of the highest scoring SABBS appraised Boerboels in the World, but their offspring have matched and in some cases exceeded these achievements. We are the breeders of the highest appraised Boerboel in the world named Black Iron Bentley, 94.1%. We are also the breeders of Black Iron Boston, the highest appraised brindle female in the World who is also the mother of Bentley. 95% of the dogs in our breeding program are in the SABBS Stud Register which is the upper echelon of the registry which requires high scores on appraisals as well as health testing scoring minimums.

Over the years, Black Iron owned/bred dogs have been used in the foundations of many well known breeding programs, and can be found within the pedigrees of many of the highest scoring dogs in North America. Black Iron Boerboels is now an Internationally recognized name in the Boerboel world, known for producing quality Boerboels with a program that stands hard and true on honesty and integrity.

While everyone enjoys looking at a big gorgeous dog, our primary focus is producing healthy and functional dogs with a true Boerboel temperament. Coming from a heavy working dog background(GSD’s), lazy and sloppy Boerboels were a huge turn off for us in the beginning. About 4-5 years ago we shifted gears to create an additional stream here where the working ability, stamina and athleticism is alive and well. We work diligently to blend and ensure that we produce Boerboels with the health needed to support the temperament for years to come.

All of our breeding dogs are fully health tested. You will find dogs (Boerboels, and German Shepherds from long ago) that we have produced which carry OUR kennel names in the OFA database going back 35 years. We don’t just preach about doing health testing, we practice it.

First and foremost, our dogs are family farm dogs. They are NOT confined to crates or small stand-up kennels and then let outside a few times a day for photo sessions. They are our guardians and companions, often rotated in and out from our home to yards and fields where they have 24/7 freedom to run. We provide extensive lifetime breeder support to all in the Black Iron family, and we hold fast and true to preserving and promoting the breed with the utmost integrity. Breeders of World class South African Boerboels

Located on a working farm in Indiana about an hour north of Indianapolis, we are known as premiere South African Boerboel breeders here in the USA and abroad.  

We have had many dogs over the years, but never one even remotely close to the Boerboel.  They are the ideal dog for us as they seamlessly change from living room floor ornaments and babysitters, to serious family protectors.  Our dogs are gentle with children and fine with visitors when in our presence, but they put a whole new spin on the definition of guardian.

We searched far and wide before importing over our foundation stock, all of which were very carefully selected from some of the top producing kennels in the world.  While everyone enjoys looking at a big gorgeous dog, our primary focus is producing healthy dogs with a true Boerboel temperament.  First and foremost our dogs are true farm dogs.  Health is also key to us, and we work diligently to ensure that we produce a dog with the health needed to support the temperament for years to come.   The fact that they are easy on the eyes is just an added bonus!

Our passion is genetics, our love is for the dogs, and our goal is to produce puppies of exceptional quality both mentally and physically.  We are typically seasonal South African Boerboel breeders with most of our babies typically being born in the late Fall/Winter months. We take breeding and placing puppies into correct homes very seriously.  I am very blessed to have a full in house fertility lab here at Black Iron…where we also do everything from progesterone testing, transcervical implants, semen storage, ultrasounds and more!  We provide lifetime breeder support to all in the Black Iron family, and our Boerboel puppies always have a home with us.  We hold fast and true to preserving and promoting the breed with the utmost integrity.  These huge and amazing dogs are not for everyone.  Please research thoroughly, and reach out with any questions that you may have.
