Some dogs never really leave us—they live on in what they leave behind. ❤️

I would be lying if I said these babies don’t already hold a very special place in my heart. Their daddy, KS Judge, was my ❤️ dog. To everyone else, Judge was the big, impressive dog in the pictures—the South African import who held the highest SABBS Linear appraisal score for a male Boerboel for many years and became influential in many of the top U.S. breeding programs we see today.

To me, he was so much more. He was my best buddy. My sidekick. My shadow. My fierce protector. My extra kid. Judge went EVERYWHERE with me. He was the definition of presence—with that huge chest, his head held high and proud, and the guts to back it all up when needed. We lost Judge unexpectedly nearly 2½ years ago after he ingested an oversized tennis-ball-type dog toy. By the time we discovered what had happened, the pieces had lodged in his bowels which had already become necrotic. We had no options. It was awful. It was months before I could even talk about.

And now, somehow, here we are.

Six little Judgies.

3 boys. 3 girls.

This breeding was done using frozen semen, which can be tricky even when everything goes perfectly. And NOTHING about the timing surrounding this breeding went the way I normally would have planned it. I truly didn’t think it had worked.

What makes this breeding even more exciting to me is that this isn’t simply about bringing Judge back.It’s about what we’ve built and how we are now using him. Judge consistently stamped his offspring with so many of the traits that made us fall in love with him in the first place—bone, substance, chest, powerful shoulders and rear, correct angulation, presence and serious guardian temperament.

And then there’s Six. Six is a Black Iron Riff daughter, and anyone who knows Riff will recognize him in this girl. She’s beautiful, happy, confident, loving, pushy in all the right ways 😂, athletic, animated and has a HUGE clown personality just like her daddy.

But here’s where this breeding becomes especially interesting to us…

Six brings our proven genetics back to Judge through later generations, rather than simply making a close Judge breeding. Through her sire Riff, she carries Black Iron Boston, 91.3%, and Boston is out of KS Bikkiejoi, 91.6%…one of the influential females in our program and a female who has proven time and time again to blend beautifully with our dogs.

After generations of selection, we now have the opportunity to bring Judge directly back across Six who is a female carrying those additional generations of Black Iron genetics behind her. And THAT is what excites me. We don’t breed by simply putting two pretty dogs together.

After nearly 4 decades of breeding dogs, I’ve learned that the two dogs standing in front of you absolutely matter—but understanding what is behind them, what those dogs consistently PRODUCE, and which families complement one another generation after generation matters just as much.

With these puppies, we’re looking for Judge’s unmistakable presence, substance and guardian instinct combined with Six’s confidence, athleticism and personality—and all of the selections we’ve put into the generations between them.

Judge has already left an incredible mark on our program and on the Boerboel breed. Our dogs have continued to improved significantly over the years. 🙏❤️.   Now we get to see what he can do when brought back into additional generations of Black Iron blood. 

And because this litter means so much to us, I’m not in a hurry for these babies to fly out the door.We need to make sure we have what WE need from this litter first. We will not be keeping all six, however, may be offering a few now:

This is a very, very special pairing that was put together for a reason. Sometimes breeding dogs has a way of bringing you full circle. And sometimes, if you’re really lucky, a piece of a dog you thought you’d said goodbye to finds its way back home.
